FINALS: Iacofano’s 2, WTF United 1

It was a dark and stormy night. The teams arrived early to get loose and get pumped. But the officials weren’t there at game time. Many spectators were driven away by the weather and the time. Many spectators stayed, and got an exciting match for their trouble.

Iacofano broke the ice late in the first half, and the Grey left the field planning our comeback. It took almost the entire second half, but finally a Jerry took a shot that the keeper got a hand on, and Randy buried the deflection. Check out the awesome photo sequence showing Randy’s goal to tie the game and send us into overtime:

The shot deflects, and time stops – the ball hangs in mid-air in front of Randy and the goal is wide open. At the smell of the impending kill, endorphins do their “rush” thing, and some fairly complex 4-dimensional calculus occurs – all in a split second.

All eyes converge on a single spot – the choice is made, the hands are played, the shot is fired.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-AL!!!!!!!!!!

They scored in the first sudden-death overtime, ending the game 2-1. But the Gray came away with heads held high, justifiably proud of our first season together.

2007 Fall Tournament Seed: 6th

This is a single elimination tournament. If we are to win it all, we will have to beat the 3rd seed, 2nd seed, and (probably) the 1st seed – all in a row. (It might not be the 1st seed in the Championship game if the 4th or 5th seed takes them out in the Semifinals.)

WTF United, Iacofano’s, and Moe’s all finished the season 3-5-2. I haven’t worked it all out, but my guess is that we have the worst GAA, so we get the 6th seed.

So, game 1 of the Tournament is Iacofano’s vs Moe’s at 7:45 on Monday 19 November – field 4. The winner of that game will play the Holy Terrors in the Semis (11/26, 7:45p, field 4)
Game 2 is WTF United vs Mudslingers at 9:00 on Monday 19 November – field 5. The winner of that match moves on to play Charleston Wave in the Semis (11/26, 9:00p, field 5).

The championship game is Monday 3 December at 6:30 pm on field 5.

Mudslingers beat Moe’s twice and Iacofano’s twice, and lost twice each to Charleston Wave, and Holy Terrors
We’ve beaten them twice, but both times both teams were short on subs. . .
